Digidesign is now announced last year. Version 6.0 of the software brings Mac OS X compatibility, new file management functions, enhanced MIDI functionality, TDM and RTAS plug-in instancing on-the-fly (TDM version only), new plugins, import Session Data options (TDM only), and more features in the LE version. List price for the Pro Tools 6.0 software upgrade is $200 from any previous TDM version and $75 from any previous LE version. The page however notes some limited functionality, until follow-up software updates are offered in mid-2003.

Digidesign's Pro Tools TDM 6.0 software supports Pro Tools|HD, Pro Tools|24 MIX, and Pro Tools|24 systems, but does not include support for for AVoption|XL and Avid Unity MediaNetwork--which will be added in another release currently scheduled for mid-2003. Pro Tools LE 6.0 software supports Digi 001, Mbox and Digi ToolBox, while Mac OS X support for Digi 002 will be included in a follow-up software release, currently scheduled for mid-2003. Additionally, neither version of the software supports DigiStudio.

    What about new Macs?

Lots of people have had lots of problems with the Digi001 on newer G4s (Dual 867MHz-Dual 1.42GHz). Some had to change the motherboard or the Mac wouldn't startup (at all, not even a chime). Some had crashes upon loading the DigiSystem INIT.

I'd like to know where we are with the latest machines and ProTools 6.

    they say....

all g4's AGP and newer (non PCI) are compatible except for the newest "OSX only" booting machines so far.....

    authorization

What an absurdly cumbersome and stupid plug-in authorization scheme . . .
what if you don't want your Protools machine to have access to the internet?!?!

That's a lot of hoops just to get people to pay for a few plug-ins . . . the people who pirate couldn't pay in the first place . . . so its just useless cumbersome hoopsand will probably not aid in making a profit

What's an INIT? Is that like a kernel extension?

    ProTools 6.0

Anyone know what the solutions are to get 6.0 running successfully with a G4 Dual 867, and the 001? I'm having all kinds of problems...locks up, can't import audio, and now I can't even open or create a session without an "unexpected quit". Some insight would be great before I spend a lot of time on the phone paying for support...Thanks
