Readers: AirPort Extreme, shipping delays

Readers are reporting shipping delays (by FedEx) in shipments of their 12-inch PowerBooks and AirPort Extreme Cards, which Apple began shipping earlier this week (and some readers have located at local , including Townson, MD. ). One reader provided some details on the delay which apparently is not related to the Chinese New Year (today):

"I got an email from apple stating that my shipment went out today for BTO Powerbook 12" CD DVDR Airport Extreme! Anyway when I checked the tracking number it was sent to Indianapolis Indiana, not UT where I live, I called Fed-Ex [and] I asked speak w/ the person in charge of the shipment, she gave me some interesting details, the chinese new year will not change anything about the status of the shipment, this shipment affects 636 people, (that is how many items are in it) once it gets to Indianapolis Indiana then it will take about 2 days to get to the customers whose names are on the individual parcels."

    Uhh...

I don't think this is a delay. Apple shipments go through Anchorage or Indianapolis, or both. They have to clear customs, which can take as many as three (yikes!) days. Usually takes only a few hours, though.

    Not all Powerbooks

Not all the 636 items are powerbooks. My tracking info for an airport card is the same as that of the powerbooks.

    Correction

My message refered to an 802.11b airport card, not extreme.

    FedEx

FedEx uses a hub system for delivery. In fact, that's what made them unique years ago. Everything goes to a central hub, and then is sorted and distributed accordingly.

    Indianapolis...

Yep! My last two shipments from Apple, as well as my current AirPort Extreme Base Station, have all gone through Indianapolis. This is not out of the ordinary...

    Taiwan orders

All PowerBook and other items from Taiwan always go through Anchorage (first US point of entry) first then Indiana (FedEx routing center).

    Apple / FedEx

Got my Airport Ex. [w/ modem] yesterday, however, only after getting a telephone call from FedEx asking for my address as Apple sent it without a street address on the box. Go figure, it's on the invoice... Anyway, better than the SNOW unit I had.

    Re: apple/fed ex

I once ordered software from digital river, entered all my info (they had two boxes for the "To:" field and two boxes for "Address". But they only printed the first one one of each on the carton. So they got my name, but not my company, and they got the street address, but not the Suite number in the high-rise. basically a "send it to Tom in the empire state building" kind of deal. Never got the box. They finally cancelled it, but refused to refund me my shipping expenses. Needless to say, they don't get any of my money anymore.

    powerbook adaptor

Ordered a powerbook adaptor a week ago and I tracked it from Taiwan - Anchorage - Indianapolis - Seattle - My house. Don't worry. It was pretty fast.
