Apple pulls AGP Update

updated 02:20 pm EST, Wed January 3, 2001

Several readers note that Apple has pulled the recently-posted AGP Update 1.0 from its servers, and removed the software's information page without notice. AGP Update 1.0 has also stopped appearing in the Software Update control panel. The update is supposed to improved the stabilitiy of the Rage 128 Pro in some AGP Power Mac G4s.

    AGP Update 1.0

I installed it two days ago without incident. I have noticed neither an improvement nor degredation in performance or overall system stability. [My system is has dual monitors--one by the ATI AGP stock card, the other driven by an ATI Orion.] If anyone wants the original disk image from the update, I would be glad to provide it. Ta.

    AGP Update for 350 G4

If your computer is a 350 G4 then it would definately be a PCI not AGP model. 350 Mhz G4's were the only PCI versions and were eliminated when Apple bumped up the Mhz to 400, 450, and 500 later on. Check the model name of your computer in the Apple System Profiler under hardware overview. It will say either Powermac G4 (PCI Graphics) or (AGP Graphics)
