    finally...

Now maybe all those idiots who think USB2 is a better alternative will shut up (Firewire 400 was still better in a lot of ways, but now Firewire 800 just blows it away!)

Yes, you should soon be able to buy a FireWire 800 PCI card for PowerMac towers. If you wait some, you could probably pick up a combo USB2/FireWire 800 card for under $60 within a few months.

    woops!

Donnie and Colin just told me that you would need an "adaptator" to be "compatitable" with fw400. The "adaptator" basically splits the unique fw800 port into two fw400 ports. Neato!

    and USB 2 for fun

I'd like to see a FW800/USB2 PCI card for those of us who want the benefits of faster firewire and the cheaper USB2 stuff that's out there.

I'm kind of pissed at Apple for not joining the USB2 bandwagon, even though I can understand their wanting to focus on FireWire.

Just because they've had success in introducing new standards doesn't mean that if they ignore the ones introduced elsewhere that they'll go away.

All they can do is hurt Mac users, and therefor the platform as a whole.

    USB 2

If all it takes to add USB 2 compatibility to OS X is to drop a card in, what's the big frickin' deal? When all the PC manufacturers have FW plugs on THEIR machines as a matter of course, Apple will be HAPPY to put USB 2 on their machines as a matter of course. So there. Nyah.

    Finally

OK , folks , here is what I have to say , I whole-heartedly wagree with you all - I am a PC user , though I love macs . I want to get a 1394B hard drive , why would I get a 400 when 800's are out anyway ? My point is , I also want a USB2.0 interface , I mean I dont want to use 2 pci slots , so I can't wait till they come out with combo cards. I know this is asking for alot , But I cant wait for when they come out with , PCI cards taht have ---
1394B , USB2.0 & SATA !!! This might sound silly to some , but for me it is practical , you all take care here , & enjoy -
