I wonder if Apple will be able to take advantage of what they come up with. Time will tell.

Actually, Digital radio (sometimes referred to as HD-Radio) is already available in certain areas. A couple weeks ago, a station in Raleigh, NC started broadcasting their HD-radio signal. Too bad you can't buy a receiver to pick up the station yet. :-) If I remember correctly, this is the first station on the east coast to make the jump.
Ibiquity's IBOC system "HD Radio" has some problems:
1.) It creates large amounts of digital noise that obliterates first adjacent frequencies, so there will be problems using it at night when the skywave comes in.
2.) Digital versions of crappy programming. Still crappy programming.

The FCC ruled local radio stations can begin to broadcast in digital quality next year (or this year some time). Guess what, it's free! All you need is to get a converter/adapter for your car/home whatever and listen to digital music for free! $10 a month please!
