A Knowledge Base article addresses the problem that some PowerBook G4 and iBook computers have with the Combo Drive , or not offering the maximum write speed specified for the drive. The solution is to use CD-R discs capable of writing at 16x. Also, the presence of labels and ink on the discs surface can cause the drive to become imbalanced, dropping the speed to 4x and 8x to reduce potential write errors.
