- El Gato has released EyeTV 1.1 software for its EyeTV digital video recorder. It now contains a visual editor for saved recordings for deleting commercials or editing content, exporting movie clips, clip trimming, and splitting video files. Other new features include QuickTime movie and VideoCD playback as well as an automated snapshots function. [8.0MB]
- America Online has posted a new version of its instant messaging client. AOL IM 4.5.967 offers Desktop Buddies (Finder representations), folder preferences, logging/encrypted logging, an International stock ticker, and other bug fixes. It works on both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. [3.2MB]
- Apple's updated products are available, including a beta of its Safari Web browser and a public beta of X11 for Mac OS X (as noted yesterday).
- ALAP has updated its $100 effects creation XTension for QuarkXPress 4.1/5.0, ShadowCaster 3.0.2, which can create one-click drop shadows and 6 types of effects. The effects can be applied to any QuarkXPress item, including text and images with full control over opacity, blur, intensity, color, and blend modes (with support for transparency). Upgrades from v2.0 are $50.
- Angelo Scicolone's SoundOn! is a simple freeware application for PowerBook G4 Titanium users that prevents PowerBook G4's speakers form turning off when you use battery power: "to save energy, Mac OS X turns PB G4's speakers off after a while if no sound is played and you're using battery power."
