Adobe pulls Illustrator 9.0.2 update

updated 10:05 am EST, Wed January 3, 2001

One reader notes that Adobe has mysteriously pulled the Illustrator 9.0.2 update from its servers, after first posting the software on December 28. The Illustrator 9.0.1 update is still available.

    Oh, boy...

I have already updated the lot. Yet, no complaints.

    Tick, tick, tick...

    Where?

Where did you get the 9.0.2 update on Adobe's FTP site? I searched around; ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/illustrator/mac/9.x/updaters/ only has the 9.0.1 update.

    Well...

Unless someone could tell me why I suddenly need to "pick a primary object" to distribute the alignment of multiple objects, only to have them align-to (not distribute from) that object, I'd see little cause for alarm, but rest assured, I'll be on close lookout for 9.0.3...

    Still not right

9.0.2 still doesn't solve the main problem I've been having. The two main printing firms I work with still require 8.0 files, until they're convinced that the kinks have been worked out of AI 9. In theory, I can work in 9 and save as 8 (losing some features, admittedly), but each time I open AI 8 files in AI 9, the CMYK values shift. Open a file five times, the values shift five times -- always in some random direction.

I've turned off color management, and fiddled with a host of other things, without success. My efforts to communicate this problem with Adobe fell on deaf ears, or got the reply, "we've had no other reports of this, and can't duplicate it." Yet the pre-press manager at one printer told me lots of his customers are having the same problem. And I can duplicate it every day.

I like much about 9, but until I can get my work done correctly with it, it sits on the shelf. Too bad too. I've been with AI since 1.1. At long last, I' finally starting to look at other software.

    AI 8.0

Are you using 8.0 or 8.0.1? 8.0 had some problems saving CMYK mixes.
    These were fixed in 8.0.1.

I have a copy if you can't find it.

    9.0.2 Update

I have the 9.0.2 update installed. Now I'm worried that there is some unknown problem that will cause problems. Maybe I should go back to 9.0.1?

    9.02 was trouble

Was unable to update on G4 500 machine... Powerbook 400 update was successfull but could no longer Parse EPS files. Had to re-install 9.0 to fix.

    Adobe/Apple silence

What is going on? First Adobe posts an update without explanation, then pulls it without explanation.
Then Apple pulls the AP Update without any explanation. Are these companies to busy worrying about their sinking stock prices to bother with even the most basic rules of communication? Someone (like macnn) should call Apple and Adobe and demand explanations and apologies.
Is this how companies treat their customers now?
