PowerLogix releases new CPU upgrades

today announced updates to its PowerForce processor upgrade line for both Power Macs and G3 PowerBooks. PowerLogix now offers a dual-processor, 1.2GHz PowerForce processor upgrade for all Power Macs models (AGP through QuickSilver models). The upgrade features both 100MHz and 133MHz bus speeds and 2MB of L3 cache on each chip.

PowerLogix says that the DC power board in the G4 Cube is not yet tested with the 1.2GHz version, but it is investigating options to offer the upgrade, if feasible; however, the G4 Cube will support the dual-1GHz upgrade.

PowerLogix also announced its PowerForce G4 Series 233 single-processor upgrades also for AGP to QuickSilver Power Mac models, including the G4 Cube. Compatible with both 100MHz and 133MHz bus clock speeds, the upgrades will be available with clock speeds of 800MHz, 1GHz, and 1.2GHz--all featuring 2MB of SDR L3 cache as well.

Continuing support for older machines, PowerLogix also announced a new, 800MHz IBM 750FX G3-based CPU upgrades for both PCI G4 Power Macs and Power Mac G3s. The upgrade features 512k of L2 cache.

For 2000's PowerBook G3 "Pismo" (the first PowerBook to feature FireWire and a 100MHz bus clock), PowerLogix is adding an 800MHz, variable-speed G3 upgrade to its lineup. Featuring 512K of L2 cache, the clock speed of IBM 750FX is user-adjustable from 300MHz to 800MHz. Earlier last year, PowerLogix released a G4 upgrade for the same PowerBook featuring a 500MHz G4 processor.

Pricing for the upgrades has yet to be announced; however, according to PowerLogix's press release, the "1.2GHz models [will ship] in 1-2 weeks. PowerForce G3 800 ZIF, Blue Chip G3 800 Pismo, and PowerForce G3 800 [will ship] in 2-3 weeks."

    800MHz Pismo?

Cool... Compared to the 500MHz G4, that should provide some boosts. And the 300MHz downclocking should save some battery life for those on the go.

    Unless

Unless they lower the price of the 1 Ghz and 8xxMhz dual processor upgrade the 1.2 upgrade will be very high high in price. Would be better value to buy a new machine.
