today unveiled a new processor upgrade card for Apple Power Mac G4 machines. The new Encore/ST G4 1.2 GHz upgrade utilizes the 745X series Motorola G4 chipset, has 2MB DDR L3 backside cache, and delivers the best performance of any upgrade card currently on the market, according to the developer. The $800 unit is compatible with most recent Power Mac models, excluding the "Quicksilver" 800MHz and 933MHz machines. The Encore/ST series is compatible with Mac OS 9 and OS X with no specialized software or patches. Special installation ($30) is required for Power Mac G4 Cube owners.
