Macromedia debuts JRun 4, J2EE server for OSX

Macromedia today announced Macromedia JRun 4 for Mac OS X, the first commercial J2EE compatible application server to support Mac OS X. (CFX for J2EE) now supports Mac OS X. CFX for J2EE adds ColdFusion scripting capabilities to J2EE application servers (including JRun 4 for Mac OS X) and enables Macromedia Studio MX developers to both create and test ColdFusion MX applications on the Mac OS X platform. The free developer edition is available online.

Mac a Personal Computer?

There's nothing you can do on a PC that you can't do on a Mac. This just further proves the point that Macs are suitable for large businesses and consumers alike.
I wonder how much pressure Jobs put on Macromedia to get this ready in time.

WebObjects is not J2EE

WebObjects is not considered to be J2EE-compliant. It does not support all the APIs that make up the J2EE specification.

j2EE on MacOSX

Great to hear that JRun is also on MacOSX.

It's not the first J2EE compliant (or close to compliant) server running on our version of Unix. Checkout www.jboss.org. Also, at some point, there were other ones floating around i.e., Orion, Enhydra, SilverStream.

Any J2EE server that is built with Pure Java should run with a hitch.

I'm psyched about JRun and look forward to getting in ColdFusion MX.

MacOSX needs WebLogic. That's the standard. It will actually run on OSX (it's written in java), but they haven't done any of the native IO, so it's too slow to be usable.

Microsoft will not buy MM

Easy People,

Microsoft will never buy Macromedia. The only reason they would do so is to own the Flash player and the server technologies and build them into .NET

That move would kill the player obviously, so Microsoft would not do it.

Webobjects not J2EE?

Get a clue. None of the J2EE application vendors are fully J2EE compliant as defined by Sun. Also it's not usually as simple to move from one Java environement to another as Sun would like you to believe because everyone wants put their own proprietary twist on their J2EE server. Still its light years ahead of .NET.

You're actually going to take down a live server and put up a Mac on the same day the product was announced, all for the love of .Mac!?

Either way, this is a good announcement, but just adds to the PHP/WebObjects/Python support already on the Mac. Problem is that it may just marginalise commercial vendors like BlueWorld, with Lasso � a Mac web middleware stalwart from waaaaaaay back.
