    radeon 9000

This is my only option with an ADC connection. The other option would be an apple geforce4 ti which would run me $400. I have a dual 450 with an ATI 128 Rage Pro for now. I'd rather buy a new machine than to pump in another 400 big ones on my current system.

For the past 6 months, I've attempted to upgrade my video card with a Geforce 2 that never arrived due to inavailability and a Radeon 9000 in back order. The PC is looking more and more attractive to me with its cheaper upgrades and availability.
Hey. all my graphics apps are on the PC and the 3ghz more than makes up what AltiVec can dish out

    Finally, ADC support!

Finally, we have ADC support in a (relatively) cheap third party card. Before the only option for pre-August 2000 Mac owners who wanted to buy an Apple display was to either buy the $399 NVidia card or search on eBay for a used OEM card.

I may upgrade to a new flat panel now. Here's hoping we see revised models tomorrow.

    9700 When ATI?

ATI is tailoring everything for the PC now. We'll never get the high end (9700 Pro) cards from them at the same time as the PC. (not like we ever did) NVidia on the other hand has been debuting their best stuff on the Mac since they came aboard. That's the type of support, and enthusiasm we need, and should support IMHO.

    Only option?

Several locations have been selling the OEM Geforce4Ti for $250-270. A far cry cheaper than Apple, who still sells them for the same price they were on debut.

    Performance comparison

I was wondering whether or not this card was worth upgrading to. I have a DP800 with a Geforce2MX and a PCI Radeon Card. Is it going to give significantly better performance than the NVidia offering? I already know one advantage it will have is Quartz Extreme on both displays. How much faster is the 9000 over the Geforece2MX?

Spoken like someone who has never had to make a living as a graphic designer.

    8500 vs. 9000

The 8500 is a better card than the 9000, but if you must have an ADC connector then the 9000's your only option.
