    Sorta pointless

Photoshop is already so feature rich, I'm not really sure it needs upgrading anymore. Adobe seems to be coming out with regular updates that offer little in the way of functionality and are sort of pointless other than to just grab more money. Was that last upgrade really worth the price? I mean what did they add? The healing brush. Woo.

    re: censorship

It's not censorship, it's moderation. MacNN has a right (and some might claim a duty) to hold the content of their site to certain standards. People need to stop acting as if their rights are somehow violated when a website operator deletes, edits, or otherwise moderates posts. Contrary to what you may believe, you do not have any (protected) right to post whatever you want on this or any other privately run forum. The property owner (MacNN) is the one who retains all rights.

    v. 7 was well worth it

... to me. I find it inconcievable that any intermediate or higher level Photoshop user would find v.7 "pointless". That's not to say that it's a "must have" for everyone. A couple hundred $ is a drop in the bucket if you use Photoshop for a living. OS X support, File Browser, and the very useful (in certain situations) healing brush and patch tool. Sure, Photoshop is so mature that there isn't very much basic functionality left to add, so if you're a casual user, you hardly need every upgrade. I'll also pay $200 for OS X optimization + text-on-a-path. And a histogram palette will be very useful for digital photographers if it provides live previews of adjustments!

Fireworks for web graphics? HAHAHA. Yea, ok, haha. Fireworks is ok, but no professional would choose it over PS.

    re: Censorship

"It's not censorship, it's moder-wanhwanhwanh" Please,... I wish MacNN would "moderate" blowhards...

It is censorship, MacNN found a word they didn't like, and censored it, You don't need to try and sugercoat it with a euphemism... "Moderation" puh-leeze. Plus the fact that the guy pointing out that MacNN "censored" his post was just pointing out the fact, he wasn't screaming that he was "violated". I could understand why he'd be miffed though, you spend some time writing a comment using plain english, dirty words and all, and it gets vaporized with no warning. That's irritating. I think it would be cooler if MacNN's bulletin board could point out an offending word or sentence when you submit your post, giving you a chance to rewrite or reword it so that it can still be posted sparing the few uptight people of the world the scars from the effects of a nasty word.

Oh, and regarding Photoshop 8. Didn't anybody notice "filter layers for non-destructive image editing and manipulations! " Holy c***! I mean -crud! I mean Golly! That's gonna be, um, whiz-bang cool!

    Still new ground to break

PS is a mature app for print production, maturing for web use, but is still in some ways very undeveloped for video use. Increasing use of digital video and the attendant use of PS for titling, graphic element preparation, and image manipulation specifically for DV shows that PS has a lot of room for improvement and enhancement. We saw some in PS7.
