A Cherry Hill, New Jersey school district is considering as early as this spring to provide wireless laptop computers for each of the 9,000 students and every teachers beginning in fourth grade, according to the Courier-Post. "Apple was the first company to make a presentation to the district at Tuesday's regular board of education meeting. Presentations from such companies as Dell, Microsoft, Intel and Compaq will follow in the next few weeks."

    Funny

Apple of course, but the amusing part to me is that Dell, MS, Copaq, and Intel are presenting too.

why do they need MS and Intel to present, Compaq or Dell would probably have Intels, and Windoze, it's like they are pulling all the stops agains the powerful Apple.

    here's MS's pitch...

"we'll give you all the laptops for free. and office free. and msn free. just sign here... no, ignore the thing about 'your firstborn child.' "

    South Jersey

I used to be the network administrator for the "other" large school district in Southern New Jersey. And at the time there was a moritorium on macs in both my district and Cherry Hill. Unless someone has had a major change of heart, don't get your hopes up. By the way, I left that job to go work for Apple :)

    Apple has little chance.

Dell and Compac will fight to offer the cheapest pieces of s*** at hundreds of $ below what Apple can. Quality, ease of use, and maintenance costs won't be understood by the school bean counters.

I think that's exactly what M$ is doing.

And although it might be best to go last, you can be sure that Apple will be courting them till the very last minute. They've screwed up their position in that market so badly they have nothing to lose and everything to gain by pushing the sell to the very end.

    dunno

Despite everything Apple has going for it (OSX, great apps, etc.) and the decent press lately, my money would be on the non-Apple vendors. The sheep won't readily leave the flock...even with Ballmer Bopeep playing the shepherd. (BTW don't try to picture SB in a pink dress and bonnet)
