Walter Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal takes a : Apple's iDVD, DVD PictureShow, and PictureToTV. PictureShow 2.0, a photography-oriented product for Windows, can create slideshows with a number of stylish transitions, but can only create VCDs. PictureToTV is a photo-only authoring suite, which is also limited to VCD creation. Mossberg criticizes the output quality of both applications, and praises Apple's use of DVD technology: "The Mac produced by far the best slideshow discs, not only because they were burned onto DVDs instead of VCDs, but because the iDVD program has the handsomest and most professional-looking options for menus and backgrounds." Mr. Mossberg notes, however, that iDVD lacks the "fancy" transitions found in the PC applications.
