    It's nice to see..

... that Apple is at least 'playing' in the media arena.

I haven't given Quicktime a lot of praise in the last year or so.

    Conspiracy theorists...

you know, we may not give apple credit for a LOT of things. go to the u.s. trademarks office, and look up gigawire's description (and owner), plus the recently filed trademark "iphone" (and it's owner) and the description under the patent and trademarks for "ipod." now re-read the story above, and read maury mccown's two-second thoughts on the significance of ip over firewire last week at railheaddesign.com.

suddenyl, apple's position as a digital hub and media delivery platform seems eerily omnipresent (and if done right, omnipotent, too).

    Gawd Damn

A version of Quicktime designed exclusively for mobile phones? Geez. If apple doesn't come out with an iPhone device now...

    how about..

..the iPod? I think Apple will ultimately end up with a color screen on the iPod where one could put their iMovies/iPhotos on it.

heck, you can already put music (iTunes), addresses (Address Book), and calendars (iCal) on it.. it just makes sense for it to evolve to movies/pictures.

    dontcha think?

    Re: Conspiracy theorists

one point of clarification: the trademark for "iphone" is not in the u.s. i believe it's in either or both the UK and Australia. so it'll have to be named something else here in North America (which is not unheard of). and yes, i agree - you will see the iPod become the container for all of the media that Apple's iApps produce. iPhotos, iMovies, iCals, iTunes... makes a lot of sense.

    I 'm wondering

I was searching my hard drive, and I accidentaly found some camera and microphone icons within the folder where the iChat smilies are.

Now Apple is going to release Quicktime with mobile media support.

Steve Wozniak is going to show up at MacWorld in January. (to get the idea go to www.danger.com)

    Where does all this lead?

    NOW THAT MAKES ME WONDER!!!!

    digital video to go

As much noise as has been made about the default 'look' in QT, think again about the simplicity of the QT interface and then look at its competition. Can you imagine putting the Real player or the WMP on a phone screen with anything to spare for oh, I dunno,... CONTENT? It's like that SNL skit with the news channels that end up with about a pixel's worth of content space after all the banners and ads and crawls and and and... of course if your distribution model relies on advertising, you'll need all that space to make a go of it.

Err, yes... let's look at its competition:

Oh, that's odd... the mobile version of WMP has a super simple interface... who would'a thunk it?
