" "We believe strongly that MPEG-4 will very soon become the industry standard for webcasting. It is already becoming the industry standard for the delivery of audio and video via cellular in much of Europe and most of Asia."

    Hmmmm

It looked like you had to "donate" to get higher quality, but I registered and was quite surprised at the quality of the stream.....

    Excellent "FREE" qualit

I agree, I'm getting the QT High stream at around 140kb/sec and it's just as good as my 160/192kbps MP3s.

    140kb/sec...

hmmm... why are you receiving 140kb/sec? Shouldn't they be able to get 128 kb/sec MP3 quality with something around 93?

I didn't think ACC needed all that much bandwidth...

    140kb/sec

The 140Kb/sec stream seems to be virtually CD quality; significantly better than the 128Kb/sec stream to my ears. I don't know if they'll throttle it back a bit as they tune things or whether they'll leave the quality high (which I hope they will).

As to being able to access the high-quality MPEG-4 stream without donating, I think this is just temporary. They'll probably make the high-quality stream available just to donator members after the flush of adding the MPEG-4 stream passes.

This is the sort of Internet music site I've hoped for; targeting a smaller, more particular audience without (at least at present) having to cater to advertisers and Arbitron ratings. I encourage everyone interested in the future of Internet 'Netcasting to give Radioio a listen and if possible donate so they keep on line (and add the promised other streams) without having to "dumb down" their content to pump up ratings to appeal to advertisers.

    Sounds Good

I made a donation. The sound is great. As far as I can tell there is only one channel for QT.This is the first stream I'd seriously consider pumping into my stereo system. Hopefully there will be more high quality channels in the future. I'd like to see an MPEG4 Blues stream.

    Nice sound, boring music

I agree with "forget the tech". MPEG-4 sounds great, but radioio's playlist looks pretty yawnably mainstream. It's a little broader than the usual Clear Channel tapioca, and I might enjoy a few of the tracks, but with www.somafm.com back online, why bother with less?
