Squirrel Software to sell VMSB dev app

updated 10:05 am EST, Thu November 21, 2002

(VMSB) is for sale: "Visual MacStandardBasic was one of the first Basic development environments for the Macintosh and one of the first Visual Development Environments ever created. The software dates back to the late 80's early 90's and has been a large part of the Macintosh development community the whole time. Unfortionately Squirrel Software staff (including myself) have decided to go our own ways. The company will still be alive, but we haven't the time and manpower to complete such a project."

"VMSB has been a very profitable product and is still bringing in substantial income. Without a full staff and time to dedicate to the project, it will not be easy to port it to Mac OS X rendering it useless in the next few years. An experienced programmer can easily port the project in a matter of days, and a dedicated one can do it in a day with no sweat. Visual MacStandardBasic's design makes it very easily portable to the Mac OS X Platform. The architecture of the software also allows it to be amazingly expandable. Developers out there are sure to find themselves at home in the source code.

"I am going to take offers to purchase the software. Buyer will obtain all rights to the product, code, and name. Domain name www.macstandardbasic.com will be transferred to buyer's name. I will link my site to the product for 3 months after the purchase to help direct customers in the right direction (giving the buyer time to update download sites and search engines). All offers will be taken into consideration and kept on file in case a higher bidder changes his/her mind. Please e-mail offers for this product to nick@squirrelsw.com as well as information about yourself."

    Quite a bit

It's worth a lot actually. I was with the company a little while back and the product brought in about $3k a month. Now I don't know what it is at now, but I am sure it is around there.
