Or not. Security vulnerabilities are found all the time in all sorts of OSes. What really matters is that they're fixed in a timely manner, and that an appropriate mechanism for ensuring customers are aware of these fixes is in place. Apple has done quite well in both these areas.

Yes, it's best to not have vulnerabilities to start, but that's a lofty goal.

    more than just apple

most of the security issues that were found seemed to be effecting more than just Mac OS 10.x.x. they seemed to be effecting core technologies such as apache, NFS, IPFW, and the Mach subsystem.

    My problem

with all this is, were these problems announced/known beforehand, or are they part of the "we found 'em, we'll keep 'em quiet until we fix 'em" mentality computer companies fall under.

" with all this is, were these problems announced/known beforehand, or are they part of the "we found 'em, we'll keep 'em quiet until we fix 'em" mentality computer companies fall under."

You think it is better for a company to announce that their product has a security flaw for deviants to take advantage of BEFORE providing a fix? What is the point of that?

    Car analogy :

Car manufacturer discovers that the electronic locks on their cars can be unlocked using a specific garage door opener.

    Choices :

    1) They announce the security problem as soon as it is discovered and tell everyone "we are working on a resolution to this problem" -- whereby every wannabe criminal goes out and gets the specific garage door opener while car owners panic and b**** and wait for a fix.

    2) They wait until they have a solution and then announces that car owners can go in to their local dealer and get it fixed for free.

    Which choice would you make?
