today released BBEdit 7.0, an update to advanced text editing application. Version 7.0 offers integrated support for CVS, support for multiple Web sites, new Sort Lines and Process Duplicate plug-ins, rectangular selection, ASP/VBScript syntax coloring, "Quartz" text smoothing, and better support for Mac OS X Services. The $180 package is available as a cross-grade ($120) to owners of GoLive, Dreamweaver, or BBEdit Lite. Upgrades are $50 for any registered user of v2.5 or later through the end of the year--after which version 6.1 customers can register for $60 and v6.5 owners can register for $50. $180?

I think so...it used to be $99 if I'm not mistaken...can't live without the app though...the upgrade pricing is reasonable enough. Now they just need to get the site back up.

    $180...

Yeah, it's a bit high but their crossgrade program has always allowed you to pay less if you already own a competing product including BBEdit Lite which is available a free download from their own site. Nobody should need to pay more than $120 for BBEdit 7.0 and it's totally worth it if you ever do any kind of webpage editing.

    Upgrade from prev was $39

Now it's $49 bucks. I love the software, and I like the company, but I'd rather pay $40 bucks than $50.

    expensive, but it rocks

BBEdit is *the* tools to use to edit web pages or source code. BBEdit is one of the primary reasons I use a Mac instead of Linux. I could probably get by with BBEdit Lite, but the extra money is worth it to help ensure that the company stays in business and keeps supporting the product.

    Re: upgrade from $39

but I'd rather pay $40 bucks than $50.

Damn, I'd rather pay $10, or, actually, get it for free. But then again, doubt they'd be able to stay in business under those circumstances.

Oh, but wait, forgot one thing.

Damnit! This is just another case of Apple trying to make money off their loyal customers. If Apple was a DECENT company, they'd provide BBEdit functionality in TextEdit. But noooooo. They're probably getting kickbacks from Bare Bones for not doing this. In return, don't be surprised that you'll only be able to save files to your iDisk! s**** this c***, I'm getting a PC!!!

    Don't pay $180!!!

Nobody has to pay $180. Note that Bare Bones offers a cross upgrade from BBEdit Lite. How much does BBEdit Lite run you? It's free! So anybody can "cross upgrade" and pay $120 instead.

As much as I depend on

BBEdit, none of the features listed here are worth $50 to me. So I'll wait for 7.5 unless I find something that cranks my handshaft, on the bbones' complete list.

Like Format working just on a selection rather than the whole file.

    Ah but if you wait

Those features certainly aren't worth $180!

Get it for $50 while you can. The next update I doubt will be $130.

    "crossgrade"

Since, as noted, anyone can claim a "crossgrade" from the free BBEdit Lite, why have the $180 price at all? It's basically just deceptive "sale" pricing. Just call it $120 and be done with it. It's still a little high, but then if you don't need all the features you can always stick with the free version.
