Earlier this month, Eovia began shipping , a new 3D package which "meets the needs of hobbyists, amateurs and kids of all ages. Carrara 3D Basics provides much of the sophistication of Carrara Studio 2, but is ideally designed for those who want to jump into the 3D scene and become proficient in creating 3D illustrations and animations." The $100 package includes the ability to build and modify 3D Objects (spline, metaball, terrain, and text/logo modeling) and to apply texturing and shading as well as includes a multichannel shader editor, special effects, time-line based animation, rendering (with a hybrid raytracer), Web export functions, and support for Carrara, Ray Dream, Infini-D, 3DS, and DXF file formats. It is available for both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.
