Apple today released , an update to its enterprise application for developing and deploying business applications on the Web. The Java-based IDE can deploy standards-based Web services without writing low-level XML, SOAP or WSDL using tools for code-free generation. It also adds improved J2EE integration and the ability to generate JNLP files for easing integration with Java Web Start as well as the ability to stream HTTP request and response content. The $700 application requires Mac OS X. A 30-day free trial is available.

    I love this

I love this software and I only know how to use 25% of its features. Both PCMAC versions are identical, which is so nice.

    Objective C

C'mon Apple, bring back Objective C in WebObjects. Java blows- at least give people ther choice. If the choice is there for Cocoa, why not w***?

    get over objc in w***

yes its nice, but definitely not marketable. nobody knows objective c and only the hardcore are willing to learn. maintaining two language environments is very costly especially considering the small percentage of the target audience that actually know objc.

    not getting over obj c

Having a choice is good- Java was enabled due to a clever hack for w*** as it is for Cocoa. Real programmers learn new stuff like Java, or Obj-C (which takes about one day, and at least allows you to use pointers)

Java is, sadly, more buzzword compliant :(

Wonder what percentage of OS X programmers are using Obj-C? Hmmm...

    re: getover objc

Objective C is is the development language of choice for many Cocoa developers.

It's somewhat ironic that the Enterprise Object Framework, WebObject's most valueable component (possibly apart from DirectToWeb), does offer Objective-C APIs, and works flawlessly from within the Cocoa Interface Builder.

    EOF

When will Apple start to sell EOF seperately? O/R-mappings are hot and Apple could be a big player in the Java world (who needs EJB when you have EOF?).

    WebObjects rocks!

I've been a Java developer for about six years now. I spent about two years doing J2EE stuff before I started a job working with WebObjects 4.5. People speak of the learning curve of WebObjects, but I find it much more intuitive that J2EE. The templates are much easier and more elegant the JSP, and the same can be said of EOF versus JDBC, EJB CMP, and JDO. WebObjects just makes sense.

It's just too bad there aren't many companies out there hiring WebObjects developers.

    WebObjects The Future

I'm just starting with WebObjects. I've programmed for HighSecurity system with govt. agencies. What Apple is offering is a chance for many people to develop advanced web sites without advance knowledge. I just wish there was a better $$ upgrade path to the new version :((

Some programmers are more ego based, than they are knowledge focused. The future of the effectiveness of the web depends on diverse approaches to programming being applied. It's not the software, it's the creative minds behind the applications. Many programmers aren't very creative, but good with math, and that's not enough!!

It's not the approach, but the destination. iIm getting somewhere with WebObjects..:))
