    ???

Does anyone use one of these? I have yet to see how a single wheel is worth buying. For my editing, I have a Contour ShuttlePro. More options to customize, a wheel like this, and a frame by frame clicker also.

    not essential, but nice

I use mine for ordinary tasks...powering up the machine (the reason I bought it), adjusting volume, muting. Nothing spectacular, but I do miss it when I'm on another machine.

    Honestly ...

I think the silver one looks better. The black ones look, at least in the Web photo, cheaply painted. Still, I'm half pondering ordering one here at work -- I don't know yet what I'd use it for beyond scrolling, perhaps, or scrubbing through video, but that's kind of the point -- figure it out as you go.

I looked at them in the local Apple Store when it opened. It's smaller than I expected, but looks nice.

As for envious PC users -- it looks to me, from one of the images on the site -- like they work in Windows too.

There's turn left and right, click, double-click, click and turn left and right - there's 6 functions that can be mapped, and it's the coolest looking input device I've ever seen.

    Does it..

control volume on almost all apps? The reason I'm asking is because one of the most annoying things about my imac is that there are several apps (mostly my kids games) that start loud, yet when you go to turn them down they are all ready at the lowest setting.
In other words, the difference between mute and the lowest volume setting is HUGE.
Will this help that at all?

    re: Does it

Yep, you can customize the wheel to control volume in any program you like. It's a fabuluos piece of "not absolutely necessary" hardware...but I really like it and find it useful in every app I use. The pulsing blue light is cool as well...and programmable.

And IMO, why would I want a black one when the silver one matches every other piece of Mac hardware on my desk. "They expect to sell out by this weekend" Doubt that. Sales hype.

I suggest you take your own advice, as I'm certain far more people care about Griffin products than care about you and your opinions. Go back to kindergarten... or did you flunk out?
