    ADC vs. DVI Price

While I'm no expert, I'm surprised the ADC version of the display is cheaper than the DVI version. Any thoughts as to why this is?

    $700 is value priced?

I bought my KDS 17" for $525 and it was the best of a bunch of LCD's I looked at. Even the top end models were no more than $700.

    Re: ADC vs. DVI Price

The ADC feature doesn't need a power supply. It gets it's power from your Mac. Hence, it is cheaper.

    $700

the specs of this monitor is very good, I don't think that you could find a better price for a LCD with the same specs. Great pixel response times.

    same as gallery?

from the link in the article:

"The 17.4-inch digital flat panel display comes in a modern and elegant snow-white design, and, most importantly, is technically identical to the award winning Formac gallery 1740."

if it's technically identical, why would i pay $200 more for the gallery series? i don't get, they make it white, so it's cheaper? can someone shed some light on this please?

    21" work space?

It makes me laugh envery time I see companies trying to boost their LCD sales by saying it has the work space of a bigger CRT.

My 17' crt is at a 1280x1024 resolution right now, the same as this LCD display. So, my 17" crt has the same work space than a 21" CRT...

    dead pixels

If it's technically identical, I bet that the "OX" stands for "mOre dead piXels".
Because in the 1740's page you can read "Formac’s quality guarantee: 3 years warranty, 2 or less dead pixels", whereas there's no such info in the 1740 OX's page, and writing "2 or more dead pixels" probably is'nt as good for sales.

    the difference?

Actually the OX is rated as up to "Up to 7 dead pixels", other than styling and price this is the only difference I am able to determine between the gallery and the OX.

By the way the Apple 17 is rated "Up to 10 dead pixels".

Also in response to the previous poster on the comparison between resolution on a CRT vs LCD: the marketing jive is in this case right. A 17" CRT has less area usable for the display than a 17" LCD.

They aren't just saying 1280 is more than 1024.

I've been wanting an ADC LCD monitor for my cube for some time. Having read the reviews and seeing the awards on the gallery 1740 and hearing from a friend who bought two of them (he has bad eye trouble with CRTs) I was convinced to spec the gallery for a customer of mine but considered it out of reach for me ($$$).

The new OX is very very attractive. It will likely be my Xmas present for myself.

The only thing holding me back is that I expect it's time for Apple to introduce new LCDs of their own and/or drop prices.

    For-c***!

If it's anything like their 'Studio' product, you're sure to see RF interference all over the display.

    Formac products stink!

    IMHO
