Macworld Expo officially moves to Boston

updated 11:30 am EDT, Thu October 17, 2002

IDG today announced that Macworld Expo 2004 will take place at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) from July 12-15, 2004. The tradeshow, which drew more than 58,000 attendees in July 2002 and is the world's most comprehensive Mac OS event, will remain at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in July 2003 before becoming the first event in Boston's newest convention center the following year. The Expo spent 13 of its 18 years in Boston, before outgrowing available space distributed among three convention facilities and moved to New York in 1998.

But no Apple....

I figure they're probably bluffing, trying to put the squeeze on IDG. Hopefully they will change their mind.

I hope IDG doesn't cave.... I'd love to see Macworld come back.

These games make Apple...

These games make Apple look spoiled and childish. Not good for attracting converts.

i don't think IDG...

...can back out, even if they wanted to. not without severe financial kickback (a contract is a contract).

no idea why apple's doing this. my current thought - they want free floorspace at macworld for the next two years (or something like that). macworld/idg are in the hotseat, because a lot of companies won't show if apple isn't there to stir the hype.

MACWORLD SUCKS ANYWAY

10/17, 12:14pm reply

with IDG chopping press passes to near nil, lack of decent displays, and no give aways, MACWORLD has become a bore. Besides Apple has moved away from this event as a launch pad and uses it for PRESS SPIN.

Have fun in Boston in July in 2004.

Greedy IDG

10/17, 01:55pm reply

When IDG officially announced the move, they also released information regarding how much it would cost to participate. IDG got an awesome deal from Boston in exchange for moving the show back there in 2004, but IDG did not pass on any of these savings to Apple, other exhibitors, or attendees. Instead IDG apparently decided that they were going to keep all the cost reductions for themselves in order to increase their own profits from the event.

Can the Boston Center handle the SHOW? I was not very satisfied with the shuttling that took place the last time it was in Boston!!!!

This EXPO MUST have APPLE or it's a bust. Many of us will not attend.
