Discreet ships cleaner 6 with MPEG-4, AAC

Discreet today announced it is shipping Discreet cleaner 6, an update to its industry-standard video encoding software. It includes support for MPEG-4 and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) audio compression through Apple's QuickTime 6; new 2-pass variable bit rate (VBR) encoding for MPEG-2; new Watch Folders; AltiVec optimizations, an improved filtering engine, and improved dual processor support. Cleaner 6 is $600, with upgrades starting at $180.

    Wait anyway

    Discreet are notorious for releasing REALLY buggy upgrades. I'd suggest waiting until 6.1 before using this, or at least be sure not to go ahead an update all your existing production machines.

    for sure wait

    Buggy - at least the 'demo' offered on the Discreet website; and barely functional besides - will encode only a few secs of video and watermarks it. Crashed my system twice (new desktop mac), so I tossed it. wait for 6.1
