RealNetworks today announced the second beta release of RealOne Player for Mac OS X, which supports RealOne SuperPass subscription services for access to digital programming from prominent media outlets such as ABCNEWS.com, CNN, E! Networks, FOXSports.com, and MLB.com. The company says that that Mac users downloaded over 800,000 copies of the first beta since its mid-July release (including over 55,000 in the first 24 hours).

Other features include integrated access to online resources, media search functions, a new favorites menu, and access to 1700 radio stations. Beta 2 also has support for RealOne RadioPass, a premium radio subscription service ($6 per month) that offers consumers high fidelity, near CD-quality 64 kbps radio feeds of 50 ad-free pre-programmed radio stations accessible by genre additional premium radio stations- such as KPIG.

RealOne's SuperPass provides premium content such as: live audio feeds of every Major League Baseball game; live audio from NASCAR; three-minute on-the-hour video news QuickCast updates from CNN; ABCNews' Nightline and World News Tonight indexed by story; exclusive outtakes from E! Network's The Anna Nicole Show; and even FOXSports' Best D*mn Sports Show Period. It is priced at $10 per month. RealOne SuperPass members will receive a 32kbps version of RealOne RadioPass and fewer stations, but may choose to upgrade their subscription for an additional $3.00 per month.

    Near CD Quality?

If CD Qulity is 128kbps, how can 64 kbps, which is 1/2 that, be near that, or is this more Bushspeak? Am I missing something?

    CD quality

their claim about CD quality is based on listener surveys and feedback. Obviously anyone who listens to MP3s knows better, but the feeds do honestly sound good for 64k, and the pay stations have pretty good content, sans ads.

beta2 seems to have added favorites, which is GREAT. And it looks like a real OS X app. Thanks for listening to feedback on the first beta Real!

    hope it's good

I must say I was pleasantly surprised with Real's first beta. They took a long time to get it out of the gate, but it's better than a lot of the hack jobs other companies are doing with their software. Can't wait to grab the beta 2 tonight!

    Real Encoder

Anybody knows when they will make the encoder for OSX?
I'm using Cleaner and it can't encode Real under OSX because Real hasn't released any SDK for MacOSX...

    That Real(ly) sucks!!!
