Several readers note that the Apple Store has discounted the 15" SuperDrive iMac by $100, lowering it to $1,699. In early August we noted that Apple quietly reduced MAP (minimum advertised price) and subsequently lowered pricing on its the 15" CD-RW and Combo drive iMacs. [story updated]

    Only $100?

I bet PC manufacturers are quaking in their boots. I mean slow machines slightly less overpriced. Wow what progress!

Man, seriously. I've never heard so much bitching in my life. $100 is a big deal because we don't see it too often. I'm glad it happened. I'd like more, but hey, why complain. The iMacs are still selling, and that's great. To the rest of you, fsck yourselves.

    better

they still could still go down a bit more to be competitive considering the hardware technology they are using which is quite dated, even if they used DDR technology and the latest non MX Geoforce graphics card, without some serious CPU speed improvements, the extra memory bandwidth probably wouldn't ever get used and any serious graphics card would never see its potential with such a slow CPU.

    Only SuperDrive changed

Only the 15" SuperDrive was reduced today. The other two were reduced quite some time ago. I believe they were reduced in August when the new towers were released.

    re: better

Oh yeah....like you can do all of that in that case without overheating the whole thing. DDR RAM in a Mac is silly since the Processor only goes to the RAM twice per cycle rather than 4 times like they do on Intel boards it isn't necessary. You cannot compare the boards on Macs and PCs because they are so different.

Wow that was the most ill-informed incoherent thing I've seen in a long time. Please do us all a favor and cease posting about things you obviously know nothing about
