Palm today announced its new Zire handheld, dubbed as "the most affordable and lightest-weight Palm-branded handheld," is the company's new entry-level PDA. The 3.8 ounce device offers a distinctive, polished white face and silver back and has a removable flip lid to protect its 160x160 monochrome display. It also features a new two-button design, has an infrared port for "beaming" data to a PC or other handhelds, and is bundled with Classic Palm Applications (Date Book, Address Book, Note Pad and To Do's) as well as four interactive games (Puzzle, Minehunt, Giraffe and Hardball).

    Sony

Well, looking at these, it definitely shows that they hired some Sony people...these are much nicer looking units than those nasty m100-style things we've had to put up with.

True, but the m105 is the same price, so it is a trade-off between the Zire's style, the rechargeable battery, USB vs. Serial, and the m105's 6 more MB of RAM.

Sony? Are you sure? The face plate is White and the back is silver. Looks to me like they are definately going for something that looks good with an iMac. Inspiration: iPod

would look nice as a DLD

this Palm would look great as a Digital Lifestyle Device. If it had bluetooth capability it would fit right in perfectly. Apple could easily promote this as their "official" choice of PDA. If they would do the same with the sweet Erickson phone that Jobs had at MWNY we would have two great new DLDs to go along with the iPod.

My first portable was an Olivetti M10 (similar to the Radio Shack M100) anybody remember those?

It weighed 4 lbs, and came with a whopping 32K (yes, K!) of memory. It is amazing what you can do with 2 Megs once you accept your entire life is not going to fit into 4 ounces.
