Roxio officially announces Toast Titanium 5.2

Roxio today officially announced that Toast 5.2 Titanium is now shipping worldwide to retailers and said that it would post free Toast 5.2 updater on its Website (as noted by MacNN last week). Version 5.2 adds support for Macintosh OS 10.2 and for writing CD-Text, giving consumers the ability to add disc name and track titles to recorded discs for display on CD-Text enabled players. The upgrade also enables burning at speeds up to 52x, and improves the color, contrast and encoding performance on VideoCDs. The full version is available for $100. (Updater available as of 1:30PM EST.)

I love all the good info you give us all the time but maybe you should check before making a link.

MACNN didn't say that is was already posted. They wrote that "Roxio ... said that it would post" the updater.

"Would" is the key word here. This doesn't imply that it's already posted.

Only MacNN got it right..

When they posted that they WOULD make the update available. But it's still funny when two other sites have a) made the mistake and posted an update, b) posted that the updater WILL be available and MacCentral STILL puts that it's available as a headline! :)

thanks, roxio...

in a day and age when EVERYone is charging for updates to make their software "compatible" with OS X and its upgrades, it's nice to see at least one company releasing all these updates for FREE to those of us who shelled out $$$ for you.

maybe spinning off from adaptec did them some good. ;-)

Who is this 'everyone'? That's bull. CESoft is one of the few that's charging for it as far as my software repetoire is concerned. None of my shareware had upgrade charges for compatibility, and MS isn't charging anyone, nor is Adobe...I had free updates automatically download for Photoshop and ImageReady.

I think StuffIt is a paid upgrade, but that thing always is.

Hey I urge everyone to download their consumer friendly anti-consumer update. includes all the latest in MS tactics for preventing consumers from using their software to the fullest. drives me nuts how paying customers are treated like common criminals by these people and the music industry. well f*** them.

Still crashing on launch.

The "official" 5.2 released today still has the crash-on-launch issue as the late beta posted last week! I would have thought that this issue would have been dealt with. I will try some variations like deleting the 5.1.4 prefs and Library/Application Support/Roxio folder and see if that works.

Here's the fix...

As posted on versiontracker by DodgeNeonRT here's the fix for the 5.2 updater crash-on-launch problem (I just did it, and it works fine):

"Here's the immediate fix for people having trouble updating and then crashing: There's no need to delete the whole app. Just control-click on the Toast 5.2 icon and show the package contents. Open Contents >' MacOS and delete the Rox.dat file. Close it up and then double-click on the Toast 5.2 icon to launch the app. You will be prompted for your registration info. Enter a LEGITIMATE serial number and you're in business again. I have a legal, registered version but just for fun I tried some serial numbers floating around the 'Net. With the pirated numbers, the app crashes. With my legit number, the app launches perfectly."

good call...

...on that fix! that worked for me! at the time i originally reinstalled my current Toast it was actually easier to find a pirated number than bother to go look in storage ... find the box... and get the real serial... now it works now that it has its authentic number! cool!

No problems for me

I just updated. It was flawless. No crash. It didn't even bring any registration prompt asking for my serial number like someone posted earlier.

Anyway, I don't want to speak too soon with the performance, but I hope bug fixes improves the app.

Pirated numbers

I actually had the same situation. I stored my real serial number at work, and upon a reinstall it was easier to find a serial in SS. Everyone complaining about crash on launch now uses a blacklisted SN. Using a real SN works great :)

get the new stuffit 1st

I had probs til I realized the download was trying to use unstuffit version 1.5.1, which was still floating around my system. It would create a couple of folders/files, but none were usable.

Downloaded the stuffit 7.0, all is cool.

CD-Text, at last... even from Jam. Burned one, saw it on my sony player. Now I have to rename all my track files to something presentable! (Didn't seem to like apostrophes in titles... where is the CD-Text spec?)

What kind of moronic company makes the prog crash for having a pirated serial? How hard is it to make a "You're using a bad serial" dialog? Is that some pathetic attempt to keep crackers from finding out why exactly their app is crashing?

Likely this will piss off the crackers. A new serial will be out in a week's time. heh.

Toast is s*** anyway. The only reason people use it is because Disk Copy in OS X is either always crashing or not mounting disk images at all.
