Audio Hijack 1.0 is a $16 audio enhancement utility for Mac OS X. The software runs in the background and pipes audio through a customized set of DSP filters (basically creating an equalizer for any Cocoa or Carbon application, including RealOne, DVD Player and Windows Media player). All sound played through the application can also be recorded to an AIFF file for later use.

    yah, it rocks

Yah, I've used it, it is cool. Adds killer effects to anything, plus I can get rid of those crappy real audio files now, and convert them to aiff.

This is EXACTLY the thing I've been waiting for, for a long time! Oddly enough I don't want it so much for the extra effects, which are cool, but for the fact that I can grab audio that is already INSIDE my computer and put it into any other format just by playing it and capturing it. Obviously I could do that if I sent it out and then brought it back in, but I want to keep it digital.

This is also really handy for getting audio out of MPEG-1 files since when QuickTime converts that video it loses the audio.
