Apple's Knowledge Base has the iSync beta notes available as well as dozens of other articles on the beta software, including the need to use a .Mac account to sync data between two Macs, although "it is possible to pair two Macintosh computers over Bluetooth and share files."

    Can't sync files?

The iSync doc states that you can connect two computers using bluetooth, but you can't sync data between them without .Mac. What? Almost US $9000 for a Powerbook and a Pro desktop and Apple won't let you sync your data between them unless you have .Mac. Come on Apple, stop trying to force us to use your failing fledgling.

    Held to ransome!

And we usd to complain about Microsoft?

Gee, you pay $230/cdn for the 10.2 update (described by my Authorized Apple Dealer as a 10.1 bug fix) and is justified by the highest paid CEO force-bundling 150 'new features' ...

Then Apple tells us, 'well if you want some of these new features to actually work, you also have to pay us $150 Cdn/year (no promise of price stability, etc) to use them...

Holy s%!& when is 'ol Stevo going to wake up & smell the coffee? They have already had to extend the .Mac deadline (surprise)...

They say you need a strong ego to be a creative business person - well sometimes it also takes a little humility & a willingness to actually listen to the customers - who haven't bought .Mac...

Apple seems to ride this never ending cycling between corporate desperation & cockiness...

This appears to be just one more example...

The company I'm starting to love to hate again...

    :-)

ps. I urge everyone to try XP - it really is pretty good!

    Total Krap

To sync data between two computers using iSync, you must have a .Mac account. For more information about setting up iSync with .Mac, consult iSync Help, available from the Help menu.

This is something M$ would do, tie a product to another totally unrelated product just so they can squeeze another buck out of you. You "have to have .Mac" BS why can't you sync 2 macs on the same network with iSync (via ethernet or wireless or firewire target disk mode)? Samething for Virx and Backup they don't in anyway require the internet if you think about the basic backup concept and Virus Scan the only reason they packaged them with .Mac is so they can "justify the price". One step further to renting your OS? Hey you might need .Mac to have the next version of OS X boot up on your Mac. Why oh why did I switch, I thought Apple even though they are a company out to make money might be a little different than all the rest?

    Half the features

the iSync 1.0 Beta release notes at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61747 clearly state that PDA Notes/Memos are not sync'd at all - only events (using iCal) and contacts (using AddressBook). Oh and get this! PDA synchronization REQUIRES Hotsync from Palm Desktop 4.0. Way to go Apple! This SUCKS!!!! When did Apple start implementing their ideas in such a half-assed fashion? Are we going to switch from Entourage for only 50% of the features we already have? Or will we switch from PalmDesktop to get 50% of the features we already have? OK, so with Entourage we can do email using the addressbook - something impossible in Palm Desktop cos it hasn't got an email client. But iSync is only giving us half the features Palm Desktop and Entourage already provide!

    iSync, what about Backup?

I PAID the .mac ransom and still have issues. Backup requires an INTERNAL superdrive to work. My external firewire superdrive cannot use this basic feature of .mac (or .Mac). No telling how many more incompatibilities will arise with iSync (or iStync).

    Complain Complain

First off, why would Apple give you free storage on their servers to back up your stuff. Name ANY other company that does that.

You can use Backup without a Superdrive. But if you have too much data to fit on a CD, that's not their fault. Oh, I guess you could complain about not having a CD burner too. Maybe Apple should buy you one.

Yes, they did extend their trial service to October 14th.

Maybe I should move where you guys live. I would enjoy a free lunch every day for the rest of my life.

As for me, I will wait untill Oct 13th to sign up. If they don't have some extraordinary additions to .mac, or make it no more than $50, I will not sign up again. But I have faith it's going to be worth it.

By the way, How many iTools accounts did all you complainers have?
