Apple today confirmed that it has begun shipping the new dual-1.25GHz Power Mac G4. Yesterday, MacNN reported that several Apple customers had received shipment notices. The new Power Mac is the "fastest Mac ever made," featuring 512MB of DDR SDRAM, the ATI Radeon 9000 graphics card and a CPU that is "up to 440 percent faster than a 2.53 GHz Pentium 4-based PC."

We sold a hundred percent more than yesterday (meaning you sold one overpriced box but haven't convinced the rest of us to upgrade or switch to OS 10) Business jargon its called lack of compelling products (which also has a important price point component for marketing a product to a certain segment of the target population).

Do you ever get tired of yourself? It was a valid question about dual Powerbook... no reason to be a patronizing jerk.

I'll answer it in your stead, since you clearly have nothing worthwhile to say.

It's unlikely we'll see dual Powerbooks, in my opinion. I would imagine heat is the primary concern, as my Ti800 gets plenty hot already. We can always hope, though!

OS X and new Macs

This is in response to that first fool with the comments about switching to OS X.
I know a few dozen modern Mac users and 100% of them use OS X. Whenver I boot back into 9, I always say to myself, "Oh, that"
Its an embarrassment. Simply put. OS X.2 is a whole new world of good.

Wish I had so much free time to be wasting it trolling on Mac websites.

Ummm, apparently we are near the end of civilization, as people are absolutely limitless in their stupidity. So let's clear this up. Your statement of "you sold one..." would indicate they sold zero yesterday. Yet 100% of zero is still zero. In fact, they would have needed to sell 0.5 machines yesterday to have a 100% more sales today.

OK, let's cover that once more.

0 x n = 0, where n is ANY number

n + (100% x n) = 100% gain, where n is any number.

Cinema XL Render Test
Here are my results

Dual 1.25 GHZ at Apple's Store in Woodfield Mall(this morning in Chicago)
Rendered in 3minutes 5 secs.

Dual 1.0 GHZ NON DDR (my personal computer)
Rendered in 3minutes 58 secs.

Pentium 2.4 GHZ (my personal computer)
Rendered in 2 minutes 56 secs.

Conclusion:
The Pentium 2.4 is just a hair faster than the Dual 1.25 in 3D rendering in regards to Cinema.

Yes, the new duals are probably faster in Steve Jobs benchmarking with Photoshop and iMovie tests but to claim 440 percent is an outright reality distortion.

I won't even tell you what the Cinema results are of my Dual MP2200 Athlon since you might shrivel up and start calling your mommy:-)

I do 100% of my desiging on My 6 macs. I just render my 3D files on PCs. Makes economic sense.

I looooove my Macs but 440 percent my a**.

MacWorld did benchmarking.
It's just one bench mark... performing Blast calculations.

In application testing*, the dual 1.25 GHz Power Mac G4 performs image editing tasks up to 90 percent faster, MPEG-2 video encoding up to 43 percent faster, and scientific analysis up to 440 percent faster than a 2.53 GHz Pentium 4-based PC.

Which goes to show that we really can compare GHz between the G4 and the P4, since 2 * 1.25 = 2.5 and the results are close enough to those of the 2.4 P4.

But actually this should trouble us, because:

a) Athlons are mostly faster than P4s
b) Imagine a dual Athlon: 2 * 2.2GHz = 4.4Ghz which means we would need a quad G4 !!!
c) The 2.4Ghz P4 is quite a bit cheaper than a dual 1.25GHz PowerMac, actually it's probably cheaper than every PowerMac you could buy.

But, nevertheless, no Pentium or Athlon runs Mac OS so actually I couldn't care less about these speed comparisons... :rolleyes:

Apple TWICE as fast AMD!

I Switched to mac because the Powerpc g4 1Ghz CPU is 2x faster for RC5 than any known AMD MP boards.

Currently, according to the RC5 benchmarks AMD is far slower than dual CPU based Macintoshes. In fact an AMD MP high end motherboard is only HALF as fast as a Mac.

21,129,654 RC5 keyrate for dual 1 Ghz g4 system ! (The old Feb 2002 model)

A dual 1800+ AMD MP yields only half as many keys! 10,807,034 rc5 keys per second !

There is a 10 thousand dollar prize if my computer finds the RC5 key and the money is worth it more and more each day as the keyspace shrinks.

The Mac Dual 1 Ghz g4 is faster than all existing dual AMD motherboards in RC5 benchmark by almost 100%. The curious "Mhz myth" is demonstrated wuite soundly.
Apple now is selling even FASTER machines but with smaller caches and less fast read-write ram (it now uses DDR on newest boxes, but its FSB is slower than the DDR itself at the moment.)

The mac uses a 2 MB L3 cache and no AMD mp dual cpu boards I know about have any L3 cache at all!. That�s possibly common macs are over twice as fast, its not just the few meager altivec tweaks to rc5 core. AMD have similar , but less amazing vector ops for SIMD.

Another reason my Mac might be over twice as fast as an amd dual mp board is not just the 2MB l3 cache but the fact that Mac can read and write to a cold page of memory simultaneously FASTER than any AMD MP designs which are biased for linear access and streaming. Many memory scatter benchmarks show this too. The new AMD Hammer is even SLOWER in many ways and not expected to de better at RC5 as shown in the early SSL benchtests.

It just Mac envy

Hey, all PC users get it. That's why they are pissed. They've been to CompUSA and tried out the latest Macs with OS X and are PISSED because they are stuck with a piece of c*** Windoze box. They're just jealous and all MOST PC users do is play games anyway. NO way to get any real work done when your box is down with a blue screen of death... I've been forced on occassion, to us a Windoze box and it does SUCK. The mouse is JERKY and flies around, not smooth and precise like a Mac. I can type OPTION - and another keyboard character to get ASCII characters. Try having to memorize 4 digit NUMERS to type in to get a bullet (Mac = OPTION 8). How about ALL the text reflow problems. Same file, same font, text reflow for NO apparent reason. Network always down, sometimes it'll see the printer, most times not, etc., etc., etc. Besides Mac users don't need a team of IT specialists to work on their Mac. PC people have to call a PC geek to come fix their computer. I prefer Macs because I like to get my work DONE and in a timely manner, not have to sit around waiting for someone to come try and figure out whats wrong. I can tell you in two words what the problem with PCs is "Microsoft Windoze." The WANNA BE Mac software... Take you PC troll self and go bother your PC friends.
