Alias/Wavefront today announced that it is shipping Maya 4.5 3D software for Windows, IRIX and Linux and that Maya Complete 4.5 for Mac OS X will ship on September 23rd. Version 4.5 adds "major technological developments" such as Maya Fluid Effects (MFE) and modeling improvements, the largest collection of API enhancements since version 1 and version parity with Mac OS X (both feature-parity and file-format compatibility). Maya Fluid Effects allows users to create atmospheric effects, thick, viscous liquids (e.g., mud, lava), pyrotechnics, and space effects. A new Ocean Shader allows users to create realistic oceans and the ability to create buoyant objects that react to the simulated water movement. Pricing starts at $2,000 for the basic version and $6,000 for Maya Unlimited.

um .. if you're going to complain about a product, at least get the name right.

    Unlimited .... not Ultimate.

    Let Alias Wavefront know!

Let Alias Wavefront know Mac users want Maya Unlimited as well. Let them know we appreciate Maya Complete but Maya Unlimited should be available to Mac users.

    4.5 is Coming...

To the Mac FIRST. Alias really does appreciate their Mac business. You need to let them know that Unlimited is a need for the Mac platform.

    In other words...

If they make it for the Mac, it's last. Otherwise, not at all. Great Mac support Alias/Wavefront

    NOT feature parity

Nope, until the Mac version has parity with Unlimited on the PC, it can not possibly be considered "feature parity." The whole reason to use Maya is the advanced tools like Fur and Cloth.

    I still wonder...

why in the MacNN article it claims that fluid effects is part of the mac feature parity. It isn't.
