Nikon last week introduced its pocket-sized Nikon Coolpix 4300, based on its Nikon Coolpix 885 camera. It features a 4.0 effective Megapixel CCD and 3x optical zoom-Nikkor lens in "a compact, sleek intelligent design." It weighs under 8 ounces (without battery and CompactFlash card) and offers advanced settings for metering, focus, noise suppression, white balance, and flash and shutter speeds (ranging from 1/1000 to 8 seconds). It also features a Best Shot Selector, which automatically chooses the sharpest among multiple images within the camera's buffer. The camera is compatible with the optional Nikon Telephoto, Wide-angle and Fisheye Converter Lenses and Slide Copy Adaptor. It will be available at the end of the month for $500.

Best Shot...
The Best Shot Selector (BSS) is one of the most usefull features of my digital camera (Nikon Coolpix 990). I often find myself taking pictures in low light conditions, and if I can't or don't want to use the flash, the BSS gives me a good chance of getting the shot. How it works is it takes several shots in a row till the memory buffer is full (3-11 depending on quality/compression settings)and then only saves the sharpest one to the memory card. If you see a shot that is good enough, and are afraid the subject will move, then you can just let go of the shutter, and it will save the last one taken.
overall, a great feature.
