Apple will open the first of two Detroit-area retail stores in Novi, MI on August 31, according to a Detroit Free Press. The article also speculates that the 10 am grand opening will draw a large crowd, like most previous Apple Store launches. "A Mac is a nice machine, but that's all it is -- a machine," says Phil Charns of the Southeast Michigan Computer Organization, offering commentary on the opening, "I just don't understand why Apple people are so devoted and defensive." Another retail outlet is to open in the Somerset Collection in Troy before Thanksgiving.

    We arn't a cult...

...we're a culture. People think "Culture" is a function of high-society art and chamber music... a culture can be anything from an African Tribe to a Subset of computer users... and the Apple/Macintosh Culture is a vibrant, intelligent group who cares deeply in it's central uniting factor... in other words, we're defensive, because we care. Try it some time.

The man runs a computer club and he doesn't understand devotion and dedication to a computer?! I guess an average PC user is apathetic and uninterested opposed to those devout, vigorous Apple rapscallions....

For that matter , a local paper in Detroit called the Detroit Free Press sounds rather devoid of news about Detroit. (Of course I could be reading this all wrong...heh)

    enuff random verbage....

    Nice flamebait

    Who cares?

Lots of people don't "get it." It's not worth wasting bandwidth discussing why this one particular person doesn't.

    I love fish pie

Anyone who dares to question my devotion to fish pie just doesn't get it.

What? You like apple pie? What a moron - I've built a whole culture around loving fish pie.

Me and all of my hyper-intelegent, ultra-crative friends eat fish pie three meals a day and we love it. We have clubs in every majors city where we meet to discuss how great we are and how much better we are than the rest of of the non-fish-pie-eating public (check your phonebook for your local FPUG).

Yeah - I got botulism once from eating a bad piece and it gives me really bad indigestion all of the time, but I would never, ever eat that apple pie that everyone else is eating.

I just love being different - it makes me feel special. Whatever you do, don't say that i am part of a fish pie cult - it's a fish pie cult-ure, dammit!

    Just a Machine?!

Funny coming from anyone living in Detroit, the city built on the Automobile industry. Aren't Cars machines also. Hey at least we don't put stickers of Calvin Peeing on Microsoft emblems on our computers...or do we? Either way, I've seen as many fanatical Ford and Chevy fans show up each year in Detroit for the annual car show, so yes a machine can have a following of people.
