Microtek pushes back OS X drivers

updated 11:55 am EDT, Fri August 16, 2002

Microtek has pushed back the release of its drivers for the Scanmaker 3800, 4800, 4900, 5600 and 8700 yet again, after promising their release for yesterday. The page now states that the drivers are in alpha testing, with no option to download and no release date noted.

    Done with Microtek

I have had it with them. I have a 4600 that is not even on the horizon for an update. Come on Microtek how had is this?
I say buy HP or Cannon or anybody else regardless of platform, steer clear of Microtek!!

    Not very professional

A company like this one that never updates their website to inform their readers that they are in ALPHA when they should have a working product deserves to loose lots of business...I hope they do, even though I have one of their scanners...

    And while we're at it

    Down with iRez!!!

Dumbasses can't even figure out how to make a device driver...

Basically my thought is that any company who is incapable or onwilling to produce a driver should release the appropriate hardware information to the public so that an open source effort can do the job (quickly too).

    They should've hired us

I bought a ScanMaker 5700 specifically because MicroTek had published assurances of pending Mac OS X support. They've pushed the ship date back twice since then, and now the release date for 5700 drivers is October 1!

I happen to work for a company that writes Mac OS X printer and scanner drivers for certain manufacturers, and our engineers have been keeping brilliantly ahead of schedule. Too bad MicroTek didn't see fit to hire us! The drivers would have been completely finished and quality tested a month ago.

It looks like MicroTek either tried to do it themselves using a disorganized, overextended, or inexperienced development team, or else outsourced to the lowest bidder.

I know this is shameless promotion, but our reputation precedes us: Critical Path Software, Portland OR.

    scanmaker 4900

I recently purchased a scanmaker 4900 specifically because the box said it was OSX compatible. Not only is this not true, but the readme on the CD tells me OSX is in Beta testing and there is no known schedule for OSX driver release dates. The provided driver does not function in Classic. It installs, but Scanwizard does not recognize that there is a scanner attached. Very disappointing.
