Apple will not include a Mac OS 9.2 install CD with Mac OS X 10.2 or new Macs, but will bundle Classic on a backup Restore CD, according to a Macworld UK report. (eWeek previously reported that Apple may be planning on allowing future systems to only boot into Mac OS X.)

    Another bad move

Less Features, higher cost, no upgrade program.

It just gets worse and worse :(

Now we get another set of over-priced, under-powered G4 Desktops.

    Yawn...

    One word -- CUBASE?!

Just upgraded to v.5.1 and loving it. Why on earth would I want to switch to an early version of OS X native software if I am a studio professional?

This is ridiculous. I need processor speed, not flashy gizmos and transparent screens.

    Re: Another bad move

    "Less Features,..."

*Fewer* features, since you're counting the number of features.

That said, has nobody actually bothered to check the new Apple Store configuration pages for the new G4s?

Near the bottom of each model's list of features:

"Both Mac OS X & Mac OS 9 are installed on your
new Power Mac G4 (Mac OS X v.10.2 Jaguar, is the
    default boot-up operating system)..."

I know, whining is so much more fun.

    that aint a boot disk

"Both Mac OS X & Mac OS 9 are installed on your
new Power Mac G4 (Mac OS X v.10.2 Jaguar, is the
    default boot-up operating system)..."

What if you want to install the classic portion on a separate volume altogether? All you have is a restore disk....

There remains important reasons for professional users to still be able to BOOT into OS 9. Drivers for printers or audio among those. What if you couldn't switch the Boot System, and had to run from inside classic? Your tools would not work.

This isn't necessarily going to push developers to get their OS X development in gear- they may decide to leave the mac market entirely.

Oh, and I'm sure those "pro" users don't already have full OS 9 CDs... Please, I think I have 4 of those, Why would I need another one?

    Pretty Interesting...

Seems those existing packages of Mac OS X 10.1.5 have some value after all. If an "if-it-ain't-broken..." type does not yet have Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X, but has a Mac OS X 10 capable Mac, then he/she should grab the current retail version with Mac OS 10 (with a real Mac OS 9 CD) now and then send Apple $20 for the upgrade to Mac OS X 10.2 when it is formally released.

Don't believe Macworld UK, not a viable source of detailed information or quality journalism, not really trusted by us folks in the uk.

    Yes It Is!!

Also from the UK, and wonder why you think Macworld isn't a quality publication? Been reading it for years, their reviews and news items are first-rate. ss
