MacNN reader Michael Campbell reports receiving Mac OS 10.2 "Jaguar" update CDs with his new 667MHz Titanium PowerBook: "I've just taken delivery of a TiBook 667 and inside is a package that contains the upgrade disks for 10.2. I'm here in Australia...does that make me first!" Another reader notes that their 17" iMac shipped with Mac OS X 10.2 in the box, but not installed.

    Not Really

No, it makes you an idiot for not knowing when to use an exclamation point and when to use a question mark.

    So what build is it?

So what build is it. All this talk about 6c115 not being the GM is giving me a headache. Those who have it verify it and we can be done with it.

    Re build #

    Hi
The build # is 6c115, yes its snappier, some things are not complete like rendezvous, and spring loaded folders don't seem to work. Searching is super fast, and sherlock needs to be customised for Australia, although it is listed in the countries tab.
Gee I must have pissed off the first reply, perhaps a touch of jealousy! (hey I got the punctuation right)

makes me wonder why my 17" iMac didn't have 10.2 with it :( The Apple Store even said it would come with it. :(

    don't worry- it rocks!

I pirated Jaguar last week, sorry guys, not gonna pay for it, don't think I should have to, after spending over 3 grand on a souped-up laptop less than a year ago. But let me tell you...

JAGUAR RULES!!! iChat is actually pretty cool (was skeptical at first, but I like it). Quartz Extreme makes a huge difference, even on my 16 MB graphics card. Everything is faster, the new finder is totally badarse, the way windows zoom open and closed is so cool! Minimizing genie effect is much smoother, all antialiased fonts look wayyy better, the terminal is all souped up -- it's the real deal.

Aw heck, I'll probably buy it when it comes out, just cuz I'd feel bad about it. Apple deserves it. Besides, I bought Mac OS 8 and then I paid again for 8.5 and then again for 9, so... what's the difference? I bet people wouldn't be beotching so much about it if it was called "10.5" or something. Which is really what it feels like.

Now all they need are pop-up folders, a "by button" view, the old Apple menu again, and the applications menu, and I'll be happy. Oh yeah, and Digital Performer needs to come out.

    -=DG=-

    PS -- Reason 2.0 rules!!

    Spring Loaded...

It's a Finder preference, so make sure Spring Loaded Folders is turned on. It surely works under 6C106.

    My God....

Jaguar is absolutely amazing. I can't believe this is the same G4/450 I bought the day Apple announced the G4 line. (Well, I did add a bit of RAM, another hard drive, and a Radeon, but still...)

I'm still discovering features after weeks of toying around (It's good to be a developer). Among my favorites:

    - My God It's Fast: Launch time cut by 2/3
    - Adds a good 1 1/2 hours of battery life to my iBook.
    - "Happy Mac" replaced (finally!)
    - Sherlock 3 is so so nice (no I've never seen Watson)
    - Desktop picture auto-switching (with fade)
    - Screen Zooming rawks!
    - Translucent Terminal over DVD playback with screen zoom!
    - View Options: Show Item Info / Generate Icon Preview
    - Internet Sharing (remember IPNetRouter?)
    - Talking Alerts are back!
    - Sub-pixel antialiasing (CoolType) on my flat displays
    - Screen Effect: Flurry!
    - Address Book (verry nice interface)
    - Spring Loaded folders are back!
    - Finder "Get Info" works like it's s'posed to
    - Finder "Find" command works like it's s'posed to
    - Heck, the whole Finder works like it should
    - Startup Disk pref-pane is so speedy
    - Audio / MIDI Setup (now where are the sequencers?)
    - Command-Shift-3 / 4 with CTRL snapshots to clipboard (but PDF?)
    - The new Terminal is excellent
    - Finally a decent Calculator app
    - Mail finally as good as Entourage X
    - Installer.app much improved
    - Preview.app much improved

I guess I have a lot of favorite new features!
