Collage 1.0: song-related images in iTunes

updated 01:40 pm EDT, Tue August 6, 2002

", 0, 0);

Collage 1.0, a freeware visual plugin for iTunes, searches the Internet for images relating to the artist, track, and album that are playing and displays a never ending collage of these images on your screen: "The images are different for every song. You may see album covers, photos of performances, photos of band members, or just about anything." It currently only runs on Mac OS 9.

    Wow...

    Sounds actually pretty cool.

I'll go download it and tell everyone how it is. =)

    eye candy (public beta)

I'm a sucker for eye candy. I love the syrupy colors of the iTunes visualizer, but the thought of images associated w/ the music I'm listening to was too enticing... I downloaded Collage and gave it a spin.

Well, it works. Pretty well, too. I played U2-All You Can't Leave and pictures of U2 and the album and single covers popped up on the screen.(This is Cool!) Lenny Kravitz, yes. James Bond, yes. Dixie Chicks, no. Moby, yes.

Then I realized nothing else on my system was working. The clock hung, web ani-gifs froze, but the music played on. iTunes was hogging about 90% of my CPU(400mhz G4). Mmmm, that means I can't run this while working. That's ok, how do you enjoy eye candy while working, right?

I did notice a substantial delay when clicking "play" and actually hearing the music (I'm on a T1); I assume the image queries shoot off as soon as you select a track. Then the images pop up quickly.

All together this is cool, but not refined enough for every day use. For me it's a public beta (play with it, but can't "use" it, yet). Maybe version 1.1 will smooth out the kinks.

Good job, TRINFINITY! Can't wait to see it mature a bit.

    Ahh thanks!

I tried it out and thought something was wrong with my computer because it was SLOWING DOWN SO MUCH!

But I guess it was just the plugin, which is actually a very good idea, just not implemented properaly at this time.

    RE: ?

Sorry man, OS 9 is where it's at!

OS X is *still* too slow, even running Jaguar on a new Tower !!!

That's how bad it is. Sorry you didn't know that, yet

Faster or not, OS 9 is dead. Apple has told its developers that it will no longer support it. Get with the program and release this for X.

You're full of it. Jag is MUCH faster than OS 9 on a machine that uses QE, and it's on par w/OS 9 speed on machines without QE. I guess you don't lisp when you type, eh Elmer FUD?

    Actual on-topic comment

BTW, Collage consumer WAAAAAAAY too much system resources for me to bother with. In full screen mode it locks up the computer GOOD. In non-FS mode it just sits there and doesn't seem to be accessing the web (and I can't adjust any options).

Nice try, but back to the drawing board.

    Sorry chas_m

I dunno what the f*** the "lisp" thing is about (if you're implying I'm g**, you're welcome to talk with my wife), but Jaguar is in no way close to the speed of OS 9. Multitasking is *still* faster in OS 9, it always has been, and will be for a long, long time (at least until Apple can get their head out of their a**).
