Apple has begun shipping the new 10GB iPods to customers, according to several readers, following the retail availability of the 20GB model late last week. The $400 10GB iPod is thinner and lighter than its 5GB and 20GB counter-parts and ships with a wired remote, new headphones, a carrying case, and updated iPod software, which Apple is expected to post for current iPod owners later this month. Windows versions of its iPods are also expected to begin shipping later this month.

    Confirmed

I can personally confirm this, as I was notified this AM that my 10 gig pod has been received at the FedEx loading dock in Tao-yuan city, Taiwan. No idea how long it takes FedEx to ship a bazillion iPods from Taiwan, but I'm betting that I'll be listening to tunes on it before the weekend.

    iPod firmware 1.2

Also, if you check the iPod support page at http://www.info.apple.com/usen/ipod/ it now mentions the 1.2 firmware update, stating it will be available "in early August", so presumably any day now.

    Wahoo!

Wonder when US e-tailers like MacMall will be getting them in?

    my update...

i just got the friendly notice that my 10gb iPod will be at my door today. I ordered it immediately following MWNY, so not sure about the status of later orders. apparently it was shipped from PAN CHIAO CITY TW, and went through ANCHORAGE AK before making its way to the chicago area. not sure why i wasn't notified on 8/3, when it was shipped, but i suppose it saved me from the anticipation.

    ---

just talked to fedex. looks like 591 iPods are on this shipment. i'm assuming that means only the chicago area, but could mean northwest suburbs, or even midwest. either way, it'll be at my door at 5pm cst.

    waiting

I got an email this morning too. I hope it gets here before the weekend. I have to drive to LA from Chicago and I am leaving EARLY on Monday. My hopes aren't high for that though. My dads Powerbook took 6 days to get here from Taiwan just about a week ago. (Fingers crossed)

    Personalized 10GB iPods?

I also ordered quickly after MacWorld, but requested personalization. I was hoping that those that ordered direct from Apple would be served the new iPods first, and it appears they are. But I hope personalization does not take too long. Please post if anyone ordering personalized iPods has it ship.

    10GB?

10GB? Puhlease! That is, like so, May 2002. It's all about the 20GB. Which, by the way, mine just arrived today. Ha!
