    MV or DV?

MacNN, you need to get your info straight! Is the camera MicroMV (which is NOT Mac compatible) or DV (which is Mac compatible)? This matters to us!

    Re: MV or DV?

The new camera is MicroMV. The "MicroDV" title in the article headline is apparently a typo.

Thus far, the MicroMV camcorders have not been supported by any Mac editing application, nor by any Windows application other than Sony's own software, and there's no indication that this will change in the near future. Note that the specification says "still images" only when it mentions Mac support - i.e. no movie editing on Macs. Mac owners should therefore stay with MiniDV format camcorders and avoid these MicroMV units like the plague.

    Sony Should Stick

....to walkmans. What is with all their proprietary hardware? People say that Apple's Hardware doesn't work with anything. Sony's Hardware is far more proprietary. I even had a hard time getting a VAIO to install Windows 2000 Pro because the hardware was specific to a mutated version of Windows ME.

    MicroMV is c***

it uses MPEG 2 compression at 12mbits per second vs miniDV 25mbits per second. MPEG 2 quality it c*** on these cameras, too - don't buy one!
