Intuit announces QuickBooks Pro Edition 5.0

updated 10:40 am EDT, Mon August 5, 2002

Intuit today announced a multi-year plan to develop and support a new Mac OS X compatible version of QuickBooks, its popular small business accounting software. Intuit says it expects to release an updated version of QuickBooks for Mac in Q1 2003. QuickBooks Pro Edition 5.0 for Mac will be built for Mac OS X and will also support Mac OS 9. Intuit also said it expects to release a new version of QuickBooks for Mac on approximately an annual basis.

    Great!

This is one piece of software the Mac needs to have to be useful for small businesses -- or at least for small business to allow them to be 'switchers'. I've never used MYOB, and I am sure it's great, but having the same software title available on the Mac that most people use on the PC helps our image.

Besides, now maybe we'll see them mention the Mac on their little mini-infomercials that offer a free trial version. :)

    Well well well

    It's about TIME! Sheesh.
Wonder if they'll offer a wizard to import files from MYOB?

    Intuit doesn't...

Intuit doesn't make thier mac versions equal to thier pc versions. Our office use to be 100% mac, but we had to go buy a damm pc to run QuickBook Pros because the mac versions sucked wind. We wanted to switch over to MYOB, but our accountant said we must use QB inorder to exchange information with them. We have been with our accountants for over 20 years, so we had to go buy a damm pc.

I don't trust Intuit to make a QB version fully exchangable with pc QB. My Quicken on the Mac still doesn't synch well with my banks, but I bet pc Quicken would do a better job.

I bet Intuit could if they wanted to, but they probably won't.

    Great...now..

Let's see if we can all convince MacNN to get them to fix whatever it is that causes browsers to lock up every single damn day!.

I stopped coming here for over a month thinking they would have fixed it by now. See you in another month, maybe.

    Raise your hand...

If you emailed intuit like once a week for two months for this *raises hand*

I also asked a whole bunch of people at the store to email intuit if they were interested in this product.

Believe it when I see it,

And why not Quickbooks 2003? Stay with the PC moniker and put both versions on one CDROM. Really confuses folks already ... QBpro 5...versus QBPro 2002 Deluxe, Premium...

I hope its not as invasive as the PC version. It HAS to have a net connection for updates and checks on every launch (I am not aware of disabling this).

    Great news!

Geez you guys, can't you just accept this as the great news it is and not complain for five minutes?

I'll wager that the OS X version will have feature parity with the PC version, or very nearly so. Heck, it might even have MORE features (personally I think Intuit owes us that for the dicking around they did all those years!).

and re: Intuit doesn't ... you bought a "damm" PC for nothing. One of MYOB's main features is it's ability to import and export QB files. Your accountant would never have known. :)

    Sorry chas_m, tried it

Sorry chas_m, but we tried that through a couple of tess runs. We download the MOYB demo. Our accounted need to access our QB files over the internet.

I really hope mac QB will be on par, but I but it never will be. Has Quicken ever been better on the mac than the pc?

    Intuit can't be trusted.

Several years ago, our small business was using Quickbooks Pro to keep our CPA happy. And it was a pretty decent program. But then revisions started getting farther and farther behind the PC in Quickbooks Pro. So we decided then to wash our hands of anything coming out of Intuit.

We now are happy users of MYOB for both business AND personal uses. It is also a true double entry system unlike Intuit products. We will never again trust Intuit with our Macs. Intuit moves with the wind and will not support the Mac long term.

So save your time and money and go with a real Mac OS developer. Trust me. Intuit is NOT that company.

    Intuit Sucks

I would never trust any programs coming out of Intuit. Keep your money away from Intuit's pockets and stick with MYOB.
