Tom McKenna informed us that the Software Update control panel on his G4 reported an AGP Update 1.0 extension at 7:30 PM EST, which is supposed to improve the reliability of the Rage 128 Pro. However, our own attempts to download the update proved unsuccessful late this evening.

    Makes You Wonder...

It never ceases to amaze me (and in the process it amuses me) that the MacNN staff can never seem to get software updates in a timely fashion.

It's almost as if Apple knows the MacNN's IP address...

Nah, they wouldn't do that, would they? :-)

    Strange indeed...

When doing the auto software update thing from Europe with an Internation version of the MacOS 9.0.4 it does not seem to work. All I get is a big nothing :(

    re: 128 or 128 Pro

In response to the earilier question...
The only Rage 128 to ship in an AGP slot is a Rage 128 Pro, so no... the update is not for regular Rage 128 users because they have PCI cards.

    Not true

Uh... not true. My original G4/450 with an AGP slot had a Rage 128 card, not a Rage 128 Pro. Apple offered a $99 upgrade to the Pro card after it came out. So keep your comments to yourself if you don't know what you're talking about.

    AGP on iMac DVs

The Rage 128 chip in iMac DV uses AGP. It's not in a slot per se, but it uses AGP and the enhanced texturing features.

    All Recent Macs Use AGP

The G4 is the only machine that actually has a AGP slot, but the iMac, iBook, and PowerBooks all use the AGP bus for video.
