The Apple Store is again delaying shipments of the D-Link USB Bluetooth adapter, according to notices issued to some customers. "Due to an unexpected supply delay, we are unable to ship your T4728G/B, DLINK BLUETOOTH USB ADAPTER-GEN by the date you were originally quoted." Apple indicates that users can expect shipments in another ten business days.

    Fair treatment

Just after the introduction I ordered the USB adapter at the Apple store in the Netherlands.
After one and a half month or so I received a mail from Apple that the order was cancelled because Apple was not able to deliver the device.
    No reason why was given.
At the same time it was not possible to order the adapter at the store anymore.
Laste week I saw that it could be ordered again which I imediately did.
This morning I received a mail dat the adapter was shipped. :-)
I think Apple sends out orders outside the US first at this moment.

    I don't have any devices

I was gonna order it,but I don't hhave any devices. I kinda expected bluetooth to built-in, and the iPod to have it by now.

    Built-in

I was thinking the same thing before I invest in blue tooth. I hope they soon incorporate it into their products - specifically the laptops and the iPod. I wouldn't want to invest early while the drivers are in their beta stages. You know, just like how they screwed the early adopters of OS X. LOL. It had to be brought up. Just kidding.

    Re: I don't have any...

Just curious, why would you want Bluetooth built into the iPod? Seems kind of pointless to me.

Using it to beam contact or calendar info to another iPod might be useful, but how often would you really use that?

Beaming songs to another iPod would be intolerably slow and drain the battery, and probably draw the ire of the RIAA. If you can't 'officially' even use an iPod to transfer music between two Macs, so forget about sharing that MP3 by beaming it to your buddy's iPod.

Letting someone else with an iPod listen to the music on yours? Maybe, but why bother with Bluetooth when you can get a $2 headphone jack splitter at Radio Shack and do the same thing without killing your battery life?

Syncing your Mac to your iPod wirelessly? Maybe for just data, but never for music. It would take too long and drain the battery. And if you've got to plug in to recharge, why not plug in the cable that will allow recharging *and* blazing-fast data transfer?

If you have a use in mind that would make putting Bluetooth into an iPod a practical venture, though, please post it.

    I'm still waiting...

I ordered my Bluetooth Adapter 7/18 morning, and its order status is still "Being Processed" at the Apple page, despite being promised to me in 2-3 days.

if you have an apple store in your area they should have them, the apple store in palo alto had a large amount of them when I was there last week.

    Update

Just so you all know. The adapters are once again back ordered. D-Link simply can't make them as fast as you are ordering them. Keep up the good work! The more you buy, the more the technology will be supported by both hardware and software manufacturers. Keep in mind though, that this is still a new technology which has ample room to grow. The uses in an iPod can be very tempting, however, it will not be built in an iPod or into any shipping Mac unless the standard is set high enough to warrant it. In essence, the more BlueTooth devices, whether it be phones, PDA, or adapters, that you buy, the better the chances that it will come built in, as standard to your favorite products.
