Sonic|Blue last week unveiled the Rio 900 digital music player. The new device offers 192MB of built-in storage, and the same "backpack"-based expansion as its predecessors. The Rio 900 will sell for $250, includes a USB connector, and works with iTunes under Mac OS 9 or X. Yesterday we noted the release of another new digital music player from e.Digital, viewed by many as an imitation of Apple's iPod.

    Cool!

This one rocks! I'm buying one! Also the other one that looks like an iPod, only better. Thanks apple, for your designs, for giving the other companies a direction to take in design. Thanks for saving them valuable R&D funds by assimulating your designs and improving them even more!

    wow!

SHUTTLE LAUNCHES ITS XPC SS51 today, so expect reviews of this mini-system to come crawling out of all corners of the web.
Shuttle says a key new feature of its tiddly bare-bones system is its ability to accommodate full size AGP4X and PCI expansion cards. The XPC SS51 boasts DDR333, 533MHz Front Side Bus, AGP4X, ATA133, and is built for Intel P4 processors up to 2.53GHz and beyond.

The systems also sport usual XPC features like IEEE1394 Firewire, S-Video and Composite Out, 5.1 channel audio with digital optical out (SPDIF) and USB, combines with the addition of DVI (Digital Video Interface), four USB2.0 ports, and SPDIF input.

Shuttle says it has adapted its Integrated Cooling Engine (I.C.E.) heat pipe technology for use with P4 processors on this system. The I.C.E. heat pipe means no processor fan, so no noise, except when the speed and temperature controlled 80mm fan, kicks in when the system is placed under stress.

Shuttle expects the XPC SS51 to retail at around $369 (US).

    re:cool

how is the rio better than the ipod? design? no. price? not really considering that you get a 5 gig hard drive with apple's low end model and a much better user enterface that has expanded capabilites beyond playing mp3 for only $50 more. as far as the other one you mentioned, does not support firewire (usb 2.0 is far from getting wide support and does not allow you to use it as a power supply), and looks cheaply made.

    re : re : cool

erm ... I think that was sarcasm. He almost had me until he said the e.Digital player looked better (and improved)

unless of course he is idiotic and thinks a $300 192MB mp3 player is better than a $300 5GB mp3 player with firewire.
