The Omni Group today unveiled special post-Macworld pricing on its OmniGraffle, OmniWeb, OmniOutliner, and OmniDiskSweeper products with reductions of $5, $5, $10 and $5, respectively. The special pricing is in effect through July 26. Also announced today is the Omni Productivity Bundle -- which includes all four applications -- for $100, an overall saving of about $35.

    Price drop = no buyers

    Obviously not a lot of people are buying their products. Frankly I think these Cocoa houses are overplayed and overhyped.

    Apple is about the only company making compelling Cocoa-based apps and is giving them away.

    Yes it may be easier to get a new app up and running (after learning Cocoa frameworks, Objective C, Mac OS X developers tools) but you can't instantly make a mature, feature rich app to compete with anything thats got 5+ years of constant work and refinement behind it.

    OmniWeb is getting killed by Chimera (the author of which is now working at Apple) and Chimera is simply a Cocoa app wrapper around the mozilla gecko engine (with the same flaws such as non-persistent history). Mozilla is built on all the previous Netscape work from the beginnings of the Web. OmniWeb is almost as old and is barely breaking even now well after Mac OS X's official debut.

    Makes you question Cocoa sometimes (esp. how much it is benefiting from Mac OS technologies like QuickTime that simply didn't exist on NeXTStep).

    Show specials != no sales

    First: Most companies have show specials. That's the way you introduce borderline people to your software.

    Second: Go buy the products! OmniWeb is a great browser, OmniGraffle is a good replacement for Visio, and the outlining software is very useful, too. Support Cocoa development!

    OmniWeb is a good browser

    I'm getting tired of this endless OmniWeb vs Chimera debate. They both have their strengths.

    For example, how come Chimera is normally around 20MB? And OmniWeb is 7?

    Or, how come OmniWeb is slower than Chimera on pages with complex tables on a uniprocessor machine?

    How come Chimera isn't as quick at rendering pages on dual processor machines as OmniWeb is?

    Come on people, get a life.

    Show pricing

    We're running the post-show special because we got TONS of requests for the special pricing from the folks that couldn't attend MacWorld. It's a Good Thing, really, not a Desperate Thing. : )

    It's not desperation...

    Just call it a "blew all your money on Jaguar" sale.
