Yamaha is now shipping its internal CRW-F1 CD-RW drives with either an E-IDE or SCSI interface. Yamaha's CRW-F1 series of optical recorders offer the DiscT@2 Laser Labeling System, which allows graphics and text to be burnt onto any CD-R disc. It also includes "the first ever" 24X CD-RW ReWriting with Mt. Rainier support and its CD-RW Audio Track Edit system, Yamaha's Safe-Burn buffer underrun prevention technology with 8MB of buffer memory, and its PurePhase Laser System, which reduces jitters while recording by 25%. The internal E-IDE model CRW-F1ZE, in platinum white, is $180; while the black model is $200. An internal white SCSI model is $250, while the black version is $280.

    Warranty period

Great! Now I can replace the Yamaha 2100 EZ drive that crapped out 1 week after the warranty period!

    Black plastic cost more??

I find it strange the cost of a black case is a $30 premium over the white cases. Ugh.

Can't wait for the firewire version to come into the pipeline.

    Disc T@2?

Can anyone explain to me how this burner can "burn" text and graphics directly onto the CD? Are they talking the top of the CD where you would normally put a label? And are they talking any old CDr or do you need one with a special top coating oof some sort?

I can't believe the lack of info on their site about what seems like a pretty big breakthrough.

    Internal?

To bad none of Apple's computers have expandable bays for these internal drives. Instead Apple forces us to buy Firewire drives, which by the way Apple makes royalties off of (the Firewire name). Perhaps there is a connection.

    not on label side

The drive prints graphics and text on the unused data side of the disc. So, it's only usefull if you don't use all available disc space.

    DiscT@2

It basically burns graphics in between tracks. It doesn't need to be unused tracks to do it.

    anyone tryed?

Refering to the previous comment that the G4 (QS) doesn't support 2nd internal CD, or doesn't support a CD bay (but a zip bay) did someone successfully rigged the zip bay to fit a second CD drive? (the IDE cable and power will work for sure) anyone?

    re: Internal

All G4 Towers have 2 Bays for internal drives. The top contains the standard DVD-ROM or whatever and the bottom is not limited to a Zip Drive. I have installed a second CD-RW drive with no problem. It isn't as pretty. I've also successfully installed a Slide scanner in that slot.
