updated 11:05 am EDT, Wed July 24, 2002
Maxon has announced its Cinema 4D R8 package, an update to its professional 3D animation system. It now features a new modular system, which allows users to add additional modules that enhance specific areas of 3D workflow, and has seven new modules, including Advanced Render, Thinking Particles, PyroCluster, MOCCA, Net Render, Dynamics and BodyPaint 3D.
These will be available separately or as part of two special packages, the XL ($1700) and STUDIO ($2600) bundles. R8 has a new MOCCA module, which offers an innovative approach to character animation with realistic character movement and automated secondary motion on body parts such as sagging skin and lazy limbs. It also includes up to 30% faster rendering, and improved output quality and options with new accurate depth of field simulation and 2D Flash export for optimized web animation. It is scheduled to ship in the Fall starting at $600.

Great Update
Cinema R8 looks like a rather incredible update from a company that never forgets about their Mac users.
Whats interesting is that this version gives rendereing speed increases of 40% and more on Pentium 4s and 30% or more on Athlon chips but only 15% on G4s. Unfortunately its not their fault that G4s are so pathetic right now. Although I still use CInema on my Mac I render 90% of my 3D jobs on Athlon PCs. My last 5 computer purchases have been 1 dual gig g4 and 4 dual 1900XP Athlons. There is just no denying the speed of Athlons over G4s. Twice the speed for half the price. Here's hoping to some incredible news around August 24 in regards to new fast and capable G4s (and monkeys fly out of my butt).
Cinema is also the most stable app on the Mac period, so rare for a 3D application.
