Reader: iPods now ship with 1 year warranty

MacNN reader Tom Price notes that all "new iPods carry a one-year warranty according to the Apple Store (store.apple.com). Most likely this is a subtle response to the FireWire interface failure that began to show up on older iPods, and started a one-price hardware exchange policy for those who suffered from it." Apple says it will charge for a shipping and handling after the first six months.

    Let's hope...

Let's hope this trend follows with future iMacs, iBooks, Power Macs, and Power Books, since 1 year is sorta bare minimum you can give customers in the PC industry, esspecially for as much as we're paying for Apple hardware as it is.

    !

yeah, once they got the manufacturing bugs out, then they lengthen the warranty. Meanwhile, all the early adopters had gotten screwed over.

    I've transitioned to

using OS X since it was version 10.0.4 and have never looked back. I don't know what's wrong because X has been solid for over a year now.

    Two years of warranty

is what the EU now demands for all electronics. I've had a Airport Base station biting the dust after 15 months and a TiBook battery working some amazing 40 mins in its 15th month of life. (Plus the faulty iTunes installer that moved hundreds of files to /dev/null)

So I hope this pushes Apple's quality assurance processes somewhat.
